Alright sports fans.. here's whats been shaking in my life. Bullets for the skimmers, and details inside for the brave ones
* Went with Candy to Baltimore
* Travelled to San Diego to troubleshoot a system on the USS RONALD REAGAN (Aircraft Carrier)
* Mom got into an accident (don't worry, she's 100%)
* Travelled to Houston to take a certification course for my job
* Got a call from Lockheed Martin informing me that I am being offered a job with them!
Alrighty, you've all gotten this far.. so here's my story. Beginning of the month, my dearest
oceanstorm_cmk took me for a ride down to baltimore to meet the infamous Micheal (who is being called Mike nowadays.. and thats really confusing me). Let me preface by saying how nervous I was, to meet such a key figure in Candy's life. And god only knows what he knows about me :) Anyways, Friday night was dinner with his family.. a real jewish seder (I think thats what it was). Food was delicious.. all of it.. and there was a lot of it. So then it was off to the bar.. pardon me.. THE bar.. the one with the espresso martinis. Very cool place, a bit swanky even, well swanky except for the guy who was so drunk he fell off his chair, and had his friends just sitting there laughing at him.
Fast forward to saturday, beautiful day out.. the perfect day to buy a charcoal grill and a smoker box.. however I wasn't allowed to go with Mike alone.. so we all got up, and it was off to Home Despot. It was a good time putting it together, I had some time to talk with Mike and just find out about him in general and vice versa.. put my nerves at ease a bit. So anyways, it was a gorgeous day so it was off to the inner harbor for us for a day of drinking, people watching, and walking walking walking.. The day was great though, and the waiter at our table had the girls requiring bibs.
Sunday was the day of days though. Picnic at Mike's with more food than you can shake a stick at, including smoked chicken and beef brisket. Talk about a culture shock, I met so many people on sunday that my head is still spinning. Plus I got the chance to meet
myritetodream even if we didn't get to talk for too long. The whole crew was great, there were a few that had me a bit on edge, but by the end of the night, I almost couldn't drag myself away. Plus I got my first bartending lesson, now I've got the itch. The ride back was great though.. lots of good music and bad singing :)
(The rest is shorter, I swear)
San Diego.. what can I say.. Its 85 and sunny with a cool breeze.. My coworker, Bob, and I get there on tuesday and are ready and raring to go. We get to the ship and find out that our point of contact is gone for the day, so, we find a pub, settle in and laugh the night away. The next day was rough but seriously fulfilling. We got onto the ship bright and early. The team included a sailor, Bob, myself, Rob from the manufacturer of the system we were working on, and Joe, a guy that couldn't stop telling me how much he liked strip clubs and hookers.. also the guy who screwed up the system in the first place. This was really what I signed on to do.. troubleshooting is something I love. We worked from 8 in the morning till 11:30 at night. And at the end of the day, a system that hadn't been operating in 3 years and had almost taken a few people in front of a congressional committee to explain themselves, was working. We kicked some ass. Sadly, on my plane ride back, they lost my luggage.. bastards.. got it back the next day though.
So I get back on friday at around 1 in the morning. I came in to fill out my travel expense report and my boss promptly told me that I had the day off, so I should leave and enjoyu the day since we worked so long on wednesday. Sweet! I go out for coffee with some friends to catch up and I get a call.. Mom has been in an accident, she got rear ended and she's in the hospital. So I call my sister for the full story and it turned out to be a bit less dramatic. She was stopped, waiting to make a left, a van comes off the parkway at around 50 and tries to fly past her, except that it was raining, and he slammed square into the back of her car. Luckily an off duty cop was driving by at that instant, saw the whole thing and took charge. Called an ambulance for my mom and told her to stay in the car. Aparantly she was fine, but the officer was not taking any precautions. So after a scan and an x-ray, they discharged her and I drove home to check on her. She was in good spirits, but sad that her car was totalled. We went out, talked, and just had a great day after all that. Now she's car shopping once more.
So Saturday I left for houston.. get into houston.. and again, they lost my bag. But this time they lost about 7 bags on a 50 seater plane.. so it was a bit unruly when we got to the baggage claim desk. That night at around 3 am they delivered my bag, no problems there. Saturday and sunday in houston were great, 80 degrees, 10% humidity, weather was great.. Monday.. monday is when it rained (and I mean rained, not like the jersey rain.. but like someone redirected niagra falls.. stopped in about an hour.. and the sun came out. Went outside and it was like hitting a wall of heat. 95 degrees, 90% humidity.. thats more like what I was expecting. That was what it was for the rest of the week. Flight back was rough, got to the airport 3.5 hrs before my plane was going to take off.. Class ended at 1:30, plane took off at 5:30 and I already checked out.. so I figured I'd kill the rest of my time at the airport bar. Incliment weather in philly delayed our flight 4.5 hrs! I was supposed to get back here at 7, we landed at 1:30 in the morning. All I did last weekend was sleep in the air conditioning to recover.
And now the best part of all... Lockheed Martin. I was going to call on Monday to find out why I hadn't heard from them after filling out their "pre-interview" forms.. but I forgot the card for my contact at home that day. Tuesday I'm working, and at 1/4 to 4, I get a call from an unknown number. I pick it up and its so and so from LM! She wants to confirm my address to send my offer letter. The dummy I am.. I say "Wow.. an offer letter, but what about the other interviews?" So now the offer letter is sitting in NJ, and I'm in philly just DYING to get my hands on it. I have to send it in by tuesday and then get my drug test.. damn heroin.. gotta drink some water, get that stuff outta my system :) Anyways.. so YAY! My dream company wants me to work for them, and they're throwing money at me..
Anyone know how to quit a job? I swear, it feels like I'm dating a girl, I've cheated on her, and now I have to tell her that a) I cheated on her, and b) I'm breaking up with her to date the other girl.. I'm probably thinking too highly of myself, but I feel like they have come to count on me here, and that I'm letting them down. I'm having the hardest time coping with this. I mean, I'm outta here, pure and simple.. but I'm just feeling nervous about it.
Anyways.. wow, this was a long post. If you made it this far.. well.. you need a job that makes you work more! :)
